Field Power Outage Recovery & Automated Remote Well Restart
System Applied: Integrated Production Optimization System (IPOS)
Operational Incident & Response
One strong example of the value generated by the IPOS system was a main electrical transformer trip, which caused 10 wells to stop simultaneously.
IPOS immediately generated real-time alarms for the affected wells, enabling the team to quickly identify the issue, determine which wells were offline, and monitor their status without waiting for a field report.
Once the power supply was restored, the team used the IPOS platform to remotely restart the wells and monitor their return to operation. All affected wells were brought back online within less than 15 minutes.
This capability is particularly valuable for remote wells or wells located in difficult-to-access areas. Under conventional operations, responding to such an event may require sending a technician to the site to verify the well status or restart the equipment. With IPOS, these actions can be performed remotely, significantly reducing the need for field visits and saving time, resources, travel, and intervention costs.
The rapid detection and remote restart of the wells helped minimize downtime and maintain production continuity. The 10 affected wells have a combined estimated production capacity of approximately 8,427 barrels per day, meaning that the rapid response significantly reduced potential production losses.
