Challenges In Water-oil Separation

Project : MINI EPF NC101

Field : METKHANDOUSH

Client : SIRTE OIL COMPANY

OPERATIONS PROBLEM STATEMENT

  • The crude oil in the Metkhandoush Field has from high viscosity due to the low API gravity. The high viscosity makes it difficult for traditional separation equipment to efficiently separate water from oil .
  • The cold weather in the field increases the viscosity of the crude oil. As temperatures drop, the oil becomes more viscous, which complicates the separation process.
  • The combined effects of high viscosity, low API gravity, and ineffective chemicals make it difficult to break the emulsion between water and oil. This increases the adhesion between water and oil

ALFANOIL Solution

  • Install heater before the inlet separator to improve the separation efficiency by raising the crude oil temperature to reduce its viscosity and enhance the performance of the three-phase separator.
  • Supply the chemical material such as demulsifier to increase water separation.
  • Increase the storge capacity to get more Settling for the liquid that provide sufficient time for separate Water from oil. that allowed send water to evaporation pit while oil to be flowed to next stage to process facility.

Comparison of Production Before and After Drainage

The figure shown the data was collected on 18/2/2025. This chart compares the net oil production before and after the drainage process, highlighting the change in production as a result of the drainage.
